Strong coupling between semiconductor nanowire modes and organic dyes

In collaboration with the groups of Jose Antonio Sanchez Gil and Francisco Garcia Vidal from Madrid (Spain), we have investigated theoretically the coupling of organic molecules and guided modes in semiconductor nanowires. The coupling strength depends on the fraction of energy spread outside the nanowire, rather than on the mode field localization. Read more here.

Preserving the quality of atomic layers

Our publication on how to preserve the quantum efficiency of monoatomic layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) during transfer has been accepted for publication in Advanced Optical Materials. The effects of encapsulation on the optical properties of TMD monolayers, focusing on the impact of different processing techniques and different dielectric environments have been investigated. Read…

Surface lattice resonances imaged with super-resolution microscopy

In collaboration with the group of Andrea Baldi from the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research (DIFFER), we have mapped the enhanced emission of single fluorescent molecules coupled to a plasmonic particle array using stochastic super-resolution microscopy. You can read the results here. Read also the DIFFER news item.

Diffraction enhanced transparency in a hybrid gold-graphene THz metasurface

Our manuscript Diffraction Enhanced Transparency in a Hybrid Gold-Graphene THz Metasurface published in APL Photonics. Herein, we measure the near-field in arrays of THz resonators having a transparency window. A monolayer of graphene is sufficient to suppress the transparency.

Limits to strong coupling in 2D semiconductors

Our manuscript “Limits to Strong Coupling of Excitons in Multilayer WS2 with Collective Plasmonic Resonances” has been accepted for publication in ACS-Photonics. In this manuscript, we demonstrate experimentally and describe theoretically that strong light-matter coupling in of optical modes with excitons in 2D semiconductors is limited by dielectric screening as the thickness of the semiconductor…
